It’s not long until cycling fans will be crowding in the streets of Yorkshire, to cheer on and support riders taking part in the Tour de Yorkshire! How exciting.
The annual cycling race will begin on Thursday the 3rd of May and will run on until the 6th for men, whilst the women’s will last two days.
This year will be the fourth year that the Tour de Yorkshire has taken place, with the route differing slightly year to year. The Tour de Yorkshire has grown to become one of the best-attended races on the cycling calendar, and in fact, after a massive amount of spectators last year, the race was extended by an extra day for 2018! This means that there is more opportunity than ever before, for fans to enjoy watching the race.
2018 route
This year, eight places in Yorkshire have been picked to host the starts and finishes of each section of the race – Barnsley, Beverley, Doncaster, Halifax, Ilkley, Leeds, Richmond and Scarborough.
During stage 3 of the race, on Saturday the 5th of May 2018 the riders will actually head on through Filey for the first time, able to sample its picturesque sea front before heading inland and back towards Scarborough – which is very exciting! The race is due in Filey between 4:48pm and 5:09pm, against the backdrop of Filey Brigg– just in case you wanted to pop down and watch 🙂
